Blogging for Dummies: Blogging With WordPress

I called this post Blogging for Dummies because I am a techno dummy!

I am not very technical at all and the thought of setting up a WordPress Blog from scratch, had me scared.

I procrastinated and made excuses, until eventually I decided to tackle the project.

And, I found out its actually not that hard to do! Especially if you have someone to show you how to do it!! I enjoyed the process so much, I decided to “pay it forward” and teach other (technically challenged people) how to do it!

Blogging for Dummies: A Couple of Pointers here for Setting up Your WordPress Blog

This is your Central Hub, your home. Its a place to send prospects, generate leads and connect interested people to your “money Pages”

I talk about this at length in the Article on Sales Funnels.

The posts, in the centre of your blog is where you put all the good, fresh content.

The sidebars, headers and footers, is where you can link or send people to your lead Capture pages, sales pages or affiliate products/services.

It’s a great place to develope your “attractive character” and build a strong relationship with your prospects.

If you use video, they’ll like you better faster!! (Just a hint there!)

Make sure you are CONSISTENT when writing on your blog.

Getting traffic does not happen overnight.

It takes a while for blog posts to rank on the search engines, so keep going, writing 3- 5 posts a week and very soon, provided you set up and configure your blog properly and write enlightening, educational and entertaining content (key word optimized, of course)… you’ll be pulling leads solidly and consistently!

Blogging for Dummies: WordPress Tips

1. Host it on your own private hosting account (I recommend Hostgator).

You want to have complete control over your blog, not have it cancelled. Don’t get confused: There’s the WordPress Script, which is the script you will install on your private hosting account.

And then there’s WordPress.com which is a free hosting account you can use for your blog- but as I said, I wouldn’t recommend it because then you don’t really have control over your blog.

I have heard of people who’ve had their blogs removed by WordPress.com- simply because they were in an MLM. (WordPress.com does not like MLMers!!)

2. Be consistent. Write 3-5 posts per day.

3. Create and develop an attractive character. Make it personal, fun and enlightening. Show people who you are. Use video and pictures alot.

4. Make sure you know which plugins to install, which search engines to ping and how to configure your blog correctly for maximum search engine rankings.

5. Understand the “silo” structure of WordPress Blogs. Create categories (silos) or “mini sites” that focus on a theme or topic within and under your broader niche topic. So, if your blog is on “Constipation in Toddlers”, one of your silos (categories) might be “Food for Toddlers with Constipation” and another one might be “Helping Your Toddler Understand Constipation”.

You’d generally like to have 5-7 of these major silos. These will become static pages with flagship articles on them.
Under each category will be your smaller blog posts, related to (and internally linking back to)the static pages (flagship articles). These will be your posts focused on long tailed keywords, that you can “win” easily and that generate traffic to your site FAST!

You should aim for 10-15 smaller blog posts per category (silo).

I have designed a course covering all of these concepts.

It takes you by the hand with training videos and step by step instructions (in a written work book) on how to set up your wordpress blog.
